Is it good to reconnect with your family's history and heritage?

Anonymous
I'm American and my family was (mostly) Polish immigrants. Going back to my grandmother, they were really really connected with the culture - I obviously wasn't there but they all spoke Polish and were still really connected to their history and the customs or whatever - but somewhere around that generation we basically lost everything. No one now speaks the language or knows anything about the country at all and it makes me sad because my mom tells these stories of the food and the stories they would tell and I dont even know but...
Would it be stupid to try to reconnect with that? By the time I was born it was all lost and I know nothing, so is there any point for me to try or would it be offensive to those actually connected with the culture?
