By what age should one be well settled in life?

I guess we're talking about:

*Knowing who you are.
*Knowing what you want.
*Financial responsibility.
*Good income.
*Owning valuable assets.

Okay, the first two are hard for an outsider to measure but it influences things like how you handle relationships & how people treat you. But I'd say 30-40s but everybody is different. If you do something stupid it can eat up years of your life. Guys like me try to warn younger people what not to do to avoid that. A few people listen. I know people in their 70s who never figured it out and I know a bunch of late 20s who have a lot of it.

If you want to be successful hang out with successful people (circle of friends) and cut off or minimize contact with unsuccessful people. Even being alone is better than spending time with the wrong people because their mindset will pull you down or just waste your time. People who had parents who had it all together have a leg up in life.

Depends on what you consider "luxuries." The basic stuff should be figured out by like 20-23, bills, reliable transportation, shelter, food, etc. I think the rest of your life you should always be trying to improve from there. If you have the necessities, then everything beyond that will be a luxury.

Maybe it's because I settled down early but I'd say by 25 everyone needs to have their shit figured out. Definitely by 30 they need to be settled down completely.

A house when you can afford it and needs it. I think its more about moving out on your own rather then owning the property. The later depends so much on where you live. Luxery is best skipped, it's a waste of money and only paint a target on yourself. Be rich but fly under the radar is smarter.

There is no true answer to this question bud. Life isn’t a race. There are many paths up the mountain. The only person wrong is the one that chased others telling them “you’re going the wrong way”


Set your own goals. If you ever feel you’re falling behind, pick up the pace or increase focus. My goal was to retire before 30. I did that at late 28. But my idea of retirement could be seen as “small” to someone else who dreams to have it all, you know?

If I would have invested in asset-wankery, I'd not enjoy the flexibility and independence that I have now:
- I'm NOT working my ass of for some bankers who enslaved me with loans earlier

- I'm not stuck with neighbours I can't stand
- I have friends who like me for myself, not for what I own

No such age exists. I think people should be financially self sufficient by mid 20s or so. If they don't go to college, sooner than that - like as soon as possible after high school. But beyond making enough to live on there is no age.

I don't know what percentage of people EVER own a house. I don't think I've ever seen that number. I know that a sizable portion never will though, either because they can't afford it, or because they choose not to.

Most people I know that I grew up with are not there right now unless they either married into or inherited it. A younger me would've said by 26. Now I'd say 28-32 is the approximate range.

I have a cousin who is 30 and still lives with his parents by choice as he loves them and is the happiest he has ever been in life. He had a girlfriend but couldn't take the drama she brought. There is no set age for doing what makes you happiest. Enjoy life
