Is short (er) hair unique and or sexy on young women?

I have had long and short hair as a teenager. I'm 19 and enjoy looking a little more unique. I'm not talking about a Pixie cut but a cut a little above the collar bone. Is it unique or sexy? I know it seems more common on older women. I feel like short hair might be more me

  • You're too young to remember the skater Dorothy Hammil hair style craze. She wanted a cut that wouldn't get in her eyes in Olympic competition and became a copied icon of the late 70's. I've always thought Ashley Judd with short hair is hot

  • I mean, you may as well give it a shot. Yolo, and all that. LOL

As for the haters, @hollywood94 put it perfectly and pithily, in her last line. I couldn't say it any better.

Still, let me give you a few things to think about.

    * Having had long hair all my life except for a 2-3 year period, I can tell you that you will be VERY conscious of yr face. So, just make sure that you love yr face, or are at least very comfortable with it.

    * Short hair requires much more daily maintenance/upkeep -- in the "getting ready to go out the door" sense, not the washing sense -- than long hair does.
Long hair is super duper easy. Apart from washing and drying, I spend about 45 seconds/day on hair care -- brush out and go.
If it's a bad hair day, boom, 4 more seconds and it's in a pony. Still under a minute, and, good enough for even the most professional of settings.

    * Keeping long hair out of my face is trivial.
Ponytails (and/or pigtails if it's leg day) are incapable of stabbing me in the eyes at the worst possible time, which shorter hair does all too easily.
I make most of my living in fitness, so, this is not a small issue.

    * Long hair is much more versatile. You can... DO so much stuff with it.
Ponytails, high ponytails, curls, pigtails, all manner of updo's, crimps, bla bla bla bla. All the things.
You got short hair, you got... well, that one short haircut. Hope you like it. LOL
Not to mention, ironically, it's easier to wear a short-hair wig with long hair, than the other way around. Gathering up long hair underneath a short-hair wig is, again, super duper easy. Gathering up hair that's too short for a ponytail, to fit under a longer wig? Ahahahahahhaha.

    * Finally, if you cut yr hair short and then grow it back out long, ohhhh girl the awkward phase. It lasts for many many months, during which you'll re-acquaint yrself intimately with those plastic headbands, like yr 10 years old all over again. LOL And you'll have to put yr hair up in those weird half-ponytails with the bobby pins in front for workouts.

Still, I say go for it.
My husband would approve, too. He loves short hair on women, and makes the (entirely valid) point that a beautiful face looks all that much more beautiful with less hair to get in the way of the side profile. (:

Have you thought about just going into a shop with wigs, and trying on some short-haired ones, to get a decent idea before taking the plunge?

  • if you wanan go from attractive to unattractive over night. chop off your hair to a length of 6 inches and under.

  • It's neither unique nor sexy. Don't do it.

  • More like ugly lolm

  • most guys will think you are a lesbian, so if you want the guys to stop hit on you go for it.

What Girls Said 4

  • I actually asked a question about a week ago; "Guys, would ou date a girl with short hair?" Most of them said yes, as long as she doesn't look like a dyke.

  • Well I certainly hope so! Growing up, my hair was a bit longer, but now I have short-ish hair (I had it cut pretty short but has grown out and now is shoulder-length). I never really got a lot of obvious attention from guys, however, since I initially cut it shorter about 2 years ago, I have had some pretty clear attention from at least 5 or 6 guys. I can't say whether or not my hair has anything to do with it, but I feel confident with how my hair looks currently, so that confidence may be the real reason why.

I would say if YOU want to cut your hair, go for it! Never let a guy dictate your style. If you are confident and happy with how you look and feel, thats all that matters. :)

(PS - if a guy won't ask you out because you have short hair... is he really someone you want to date?)

  • Unique? Not really.. Most Girls in my University have their hair in that length from slightly above shoulders to slightly below the shoulders. Longer hair is more unique in my opinion.

  • unique

being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else.

    Definitely not unique.
