  • Nope, split ends mean dead hair, no way to revive the dead bit or rub it back together with hair products.

Cut the split ends off and then get it trimmed regularly if you grow it back. Also keep your diet healthy, what you eat is what goes into your hair and it needs nutrients like vitamins, proteins and natural fats not sugars and transfats.

    • Thats unfourtunate. What vitamins and proteins specifically, sir?

    • B complex, C, E, and A. Omega 3, Zinc, Iron. Also animal proteins are better than plant proteins because of the way they break down in our bodies. (Complete essential amino acids vs amino acids that are insufficient in quantities)

    • Makes sense! Thank you very much

  • There is a technique of trimming split ends without losing any hair length. What you do is you twist your hair and with a good pair of scissors you cut off any bits of hair that sticks out or you wrap your hair around your finger and do the same.

To maintain being free from split ends, you will have to nourish your hair as much as possible and avoid heat styling for good.

  • Use castor oil. It prevents split ends+best for manyyy other problems of head n hair. But it is thick oil so it is used like half-half (mixed) quantity with another oil such as almond oil/coconut oil/olive oil. And coconut oil is tried by myself too with castor oil so i know it is so fine to use. Nothing to worry about it.

  • Nope... nothing.
You either cut them or walk around with them. End of story.

    • i see.. is it true that if you let it be, the split end goes higher?

    • Show All
    • Okay, I did some research. Apparently, by brushing or mechanically manipulating your hair in any way the split ends will travel, but it depends on your hair type how high they'll travel.
If your hair is dry - they'll travel pretty high, if your hair is well hydrated, they'll most likely split off before they travel too far up.

    • *split off - I meant break off.

  • Eggs are really good for your hair. Same with lemon and white vinegar. I’d suggest looking up some solutions online and letting your hair soak twice a week. Make sure you are using good conditioners as well - those play a significant role in how healthy your hair is.

  • You can't unsplit them.. the damage is done. You have to cut the split ends off and then take good care of your hair as it grows out so more don't develop. Getting your hair trimmed regularly is important. Using Moroccan oil on your hair once a week or a hair mask is good too as it will strengthen the hair and keep it moist so it doesn't dry out and crack (which is what split ends are).

  • Sorry but the only way to get rid of split ends is to cut it off or its just going make your hair not look as great or be healthy. Don't use heat or a lot hair manipulation cause it will make it worse.. i think you should just bite the bullet and cut them to save yourself the hassle.

  • You have to cut them. There is no other way around it. Eventually your hair will fall out. Might as well go through the pain of cutting it instead of balding.

  • The important part of growing you hair is to make sure you get a trim ever 12 weeks I think.

    • i see. thats so sad. thank you anyway!

  • I think your friend is wrong. You can try treatments and a trim. Cutting doesn't have to encompass all the split ends but it does help stop them in their tracks. So if you want to continue growing your hair, I recommend a trim at least every 4 to 6 months. Cutting at least an inch at the time of the trim
Treatments only mask the problem. While they may smooth down the hair and make it appear soft and split free the issue is still there and once the product wears off, you will still have a problem

    • okay. Thank you! I actually feel quite glad that my friend is wrong

  • Trimming is still a good idea, even if you're not trimming off every single split end. Trimming will still cut off the longest ones and help prevent new ones from forming. So it's still a good idea, even if many are too high up to trim. You could also get a layered haircut to help trim off some of the higher splits.

Other than that, just be gentle of your hair to help prevent the breakage from worsening. Protein treatments can help strengthen your hair and repair damage, but make sure you hydrate your hair as well, or the protein can make your hair brittle and cause even more damage. Don't wash too often, and avoid products with harsh ingredients like sulfates. Try to be gentle while brushing and combing, and never use a brush on wet hair. Try to avoid putting your hair in a ponytail or other specific styles too often, since this will always put pressure and friction on the same part of your hair, increasing damage.

    • I use a protein concentrate from Babyface which you mix into a deep conditioner. It helps my hair a lot with damage. It doesn't glue split ends back together (nothing can do that) but it helps keep them from getting worse and makes them look a little smoother.

  • Unfortunately, there's no way to get rid of split ends besides cutting it.

  • Doesn't look like it to me... hope friend isn't hating on you. Your mother is wise, grow that hair out!!

Anyways no way to reverse it. Just do deep conditioning treatments and trim every few months. Avoid blow dryer or flat iron.

You can literally see a split end if you look close. Just take a few sections of hair in your hand then look closely at a few of their strands ends. If it's split you'll see it in 3 or 2 thinner strands. Think of your hair like corn and peeling the husks back makes it more spread out.

  • I had a huge split end problem too until recently, and what helped, but didn't completely make them go away, was letting a quality conditioner sit on my hair for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle is GREAT stuff. Also, only shampoo your roots and try to avoid any sort of processing like color or heat as much as possible.

Putting just a bit of olive oil on the ends helps with frizz and dryness as well.

I know you said no cutting, but a way that you can cut just the split parts without there being a difference in length is by twisting a section and cutting the split ends that stick out along the sides of the twist. There is no possible way anyone would notice.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to completely get rid of split ends without cutting them, but you can make your hair healthier and reduce their appearance with certain products. If your mom wants you to grow your hair, does she know that it will break off and stop getting longer or even get shorter if you don't trim the split ends? Mine quit getting longer because it was breaking and got a bunch of jagged, uneven ends.

    Good luck!

  • You could try candle burning your hair, but do not try to do that at home; go to a hairdresser that specialises in that.

  • It's really not that bad. What I do is periodically cut off a tiny bit of the ends myself to help get rid of them. If you go the salon they always cut a lot. I cut maybe.5-1 inch. It really helps. You don't have to be an expert to cut off tiny bits of the ends. Another thing you can do that I've done is get a pair of those thinning scissors and lightly run through it. That also helps rid of a lot of deadness and doesn't really thin hair that much unless you over do it. I bet your friend also has tons and split ends up just uses better products. Most people have at least some.
