Is this a new trend, high waisted clothing, or is there more to it?

Question

So lately I been noticing women wearing a lot of clothing that rides up past their belly buttons.

Pants, skirts, etc.

This whole time I have seen any girl wearing it, I noticed that it’s usually the bigger thicker ones wearing clothes like this. Not fat shaming here but I’m beginning to think the women that do this, are doing it because if they wear pants, skirts that sit below their belly button they’re gonna have a severe case of muffin top. Aka they’re insecure about their love handles and fat

Like the title of the question says, is this a new trend women picked up. Or are the women that are dressing this way insecure about their fat.

I mean, I didn't pick any of the poll responses because 1) High waisted clothing is not a new trend and 2) You can't make generalizations like 'they dress that way because they're insecure', some might but I wear high waisted clothing because I like the way it looks.

High wasted are comfy. And i like em combined with my crop tops especially! XD 🙂 and not sure about everyone else’s reasons xD but I like the style on myself.

Not everyone whose bigger is insecure... It’s actually super comfortable to wear high waisted stuff. it sits so well on the waist and usually makes you look thicker.
