Girls, What makes women insecure about looks?

If I hadn't been "taught" how to look growing up, I would have asked for a shaved head as a kid. Stupid thick hair tangled so much, but I'm sure my mom would have talked me out of it, and I kept growing it out because my older sister grew hers out.

In fact once I finally did get most of my hair cut off, it was so much easier to take care of (but much harder to style), but several older women at my church who had complimented my long hair previously were a little upset by it. I was amused and told them I would be growing it back out again. They just didn't understand why I would cut my hair off, which is fair, as I didn't really understand either I just wanted to.

So yeah in my experience it is mostly because of pressure by our own fellow women.

Men are more likely to be valued first and foremost for who they are and what they achieve whereas women are more likely to be valued mainly on how they look... their personality and achievements and skills are an afterthought.

Its because of clothing companies. I'll often have my hubby put on my clothes as we are the same build but I have boobs and more tummy rn. And I fit a large in mens its loose fits length wise arms r great everything. I put on a 2x in ladies its short arms are bad half the time. I recently got pj set had hubby put the 2x on and it fit him like a medium and his response was like jeez no wonder women are so insecure the clothing sizes are shit.

Because there are beauty standards that women are expected to subject to, and if they don’t, they get shamed and called ugly. This causes women to be insecure and have a hard time loving themselves for who they are. You have one way of looking that is praised and uplifted, and another way of looking that is beat down on, hated on, and brought down

As a teenager , when I see pretty girls on tik tok and the pretty girls my man dated, I tend to get insecure sometimes and compare myself when I was at my lowest. but my man always remind me I’m beautiful inside and out , ladies remember no matter what size you are, skin etc your beautiful ❤️

Personally for me it is men, because that is the only one I feel like I 'need' to look good for.. but I also do not care much for social media, and one reason is exactly because you may get judged severely from your looks, I just avoid that.

I think it's all of the things above you've listed is what makes women insecure. The more you're told to look a certain way, even in all of the media we have, the more you think you must look like that. Similar to guys. The more they see guys having abs the more they might be lead to think they have to have them too.

Pressure to look attractive and what is considered attractive. I think if men sometimes says you're ugly or fat that can make a girl feel insecure at the moment but it's mainly society's pressure to look a certain manner

Men’s preferences for looks. You can see this being the reason because it shifts in various cultures by males preferences. Some black men prefer bigger butts, these women are more insecure about smaller butts. Some Asian males prefer paler skin, Asian females make their skin appear paler. Etc etc.

We value our attractiveness based on others really. The only way you can tell you're attractive is if people tell you as such early on.
People or the media... what is perceived as attractive and so on.

I used to get poked at for my stretch marks and how huge my thighs were up growing up.

It's weird how the society tells us to look a certain way. Being attractive to a lot of people means having a certain body type, not having fats, having big boobs or big butts, having lighter skin (for Asians), tan skin (for westeners). It's crazy how we are all so obsessed to look like celebrities. Women tends to be more insecure when compared to another woman or whenever someone tells her she is too fat or too thin.
