Do You Shame People In The Name Of "Tough Love"? Have You Ever, Unknowingly?

Fat shaming doesn't work. There are studies that show that if anything, it is more likely to lead to someone *gaining* weight. That is not as counter-intuitive as it sounds. Remember the kid who was bullied at school for being fat? Did that kid lose weight.

I'm all for encouraging people to eat more healthily and yes, obesity is a problem in the developed world. But we need to act on what works. It appears that contentment leads to better physical health (of which weight is not a direct measurement) and stress does the opposite.

I can't speak for what is effective on a reality TV program, but those are contrived situations that differ greatly from the real world. In the real world you do not get to spend weeks away from your full-time job in order to focus on losing weight.

Everyone has shamed someone else unknowingly. It's the most powerful form of psychological torment you can bestow on someone else and most people do it to get what they want.

Shaming should never be a practice in a loving household or loving environment. It degresses relationships and more often than not leads to trauma later for the receiver of said shame.

No i don't think so. I can say stuff that may hurt someone without knowing due to lack of understanding or having another view and i don't tend to sugar coat my answers that would be sorta like lying to me. But i am not one who believes in tough love.

Shaming is not tough love; it's narcissistic self-indulgence. People who attempt to make others feel ashamed for arbitrary reasons are merely attempting to manipulate them into behaving in a desired way.
