What do you think of alternative styles like cottagecore, strawberry milk, pastel goth, fairycore etc?

Pastel goth? It’s like… I thought they looked weird, but now that my tv is fixed and the color is back, I KNOW they look weird! And how come when I see PG’s I think it would look better if she was 14, not 28.
Cottagecore can’t seem to make up its mind! Sometimes they look like the Amish just found out about brown and freaked the fuck out! Sometimes they look like this year they’re going as “The Farmer’s Daughter”, and the rest of the time they just look like a Mississippi whore!
Fairycore looks like “cottagecore chick at Comic-Con”. Also, I’ve never seen an outfit that looks like it should be worn by anyone over 14yrs
Strawberrymilk? That just seems like fetishized 8-12yo girls!

The one kinda thread between these styles, is that they mostly look like outfits that should either never be worn by any woman with self-esteem, or the opposite, they look like outfits that are actually worn by tweens. They are just such very young clothes, as with all things, there is no such thing as “all” or “none”. Some of the outfits in each style (well except strawberrymilk) look gorgeous, and I would happily wear them. It’s just when you throw it together with the person who was compelled to dress in nothing BUT that… that’s when it gets odd.

Never heard of those terms.
I think people should wear what makes them happy. However to a certain extent, some of these styles that exist look like an attempt to take on a different persona OR the style altogether clashes with the environment in which you live.
Maybe I’m wrong. I’m not great with fashion. I’ve only recently heard people refer to it as an “aesthetic”. Seems like a buzzword.

Huge fan of the Dark Academia aesthetic. I just don't really care for boxing myself into any of these aesthetics that Gen Z have created on TikTok. To me "Dark Academia" just looks like the 1940s Ivy League fashion. As in, lots of wool sports coats, sweaters, Art Deco ties, linen shirts, et cetera. I've been dressing like that for years, way before it became a thing on TikTok. Inspired by the Ivy Leagues, kids into Dark Academia love classic literature of Europe, classical music, drinking copious amounts of coffee, medieval studies, mythology, and other academic pursuits.
