If a guy asks for your opinion about something insignificant, could that mean he likes you?

Question

Today in music class, a guy came up to me while a not very talented girl was playing her violin, and he said "Wow, this is painful. Do you agree?" He kind of stood there waiting for me to answer him for a few seconds. Does this mean anything? Or could this just be a regular conversation starter? How can I find out?

We're both music nerds. He's the most amazing cellist I've ever heard. I did have doubt, since he usually doesn't talk to me much. But on Facebook, there's an app we both have. There was a question he answered anonymously about me, it said "Have you ever had a crush on _____?" and the answer was yes. After I was unable to unlock who it was, it said it was him. I'm just not sure how recent it was, or what I should do. I've always thought he was cute, and told him before that I thought he was.

It could be either flirting or a conversation starter - see if he makes another attempt to start a conversation with you, or even ask him a question similarly. Depending on his reaction, that could possibly give you more information as to his intentions.

It's an opener. A situational opener to be precise, you start talking to a girl related to something that's happening nearby. It's actually a great way to start a conversation because you both immediately have something to talk about.
