Maybe they're probing to get you to say whether or not you're single but in most cases, women are just curious and like to know the what's and who's of the people around them.

They probably think you're a catch and just like the scoop to your dating life as that interest them, much of the same when men probe around about things interesting to them, cars... sports or whatever their hobbies are. A women's hobby is social interaction, ie why "desperate house wives" and all those shows are interesting to them (most, not all).

So... it's a good thing in a way that they want to know what you're doing..

To be honest, I experience the same thing at work. "Are you married?" "You and your boyfriend have been together for awhile now, when are you getting married?" "Any wedding plans yet?" etc.

I think for the most part, they're just trying to have a conversation, and marriage is a common "milestone" for most people. It's also something that women tend to think about more than men, so they talk about it more than guys typically do.

Occasionally, since you're a guy, a girl might also ask it if she's interested in finding out if you're single or not.

It's just a normal thing to get married or want to get married. Once you hit a certain stage of your life its more normal for people to settle down at a certain age. They themselves are either married or wondering why you have no decided to or if you're in a promising relationship. Woman LOVE to talk about relationships and its something they can talk about and become close. Not saying that's all they have to come close on but some matters matter more to others.

Maybe they are just trying to have a casual convo and don't know what else to talk about? Maybe you're really pretty and they want you to be married so you aren't competition anymore? Maybe they consider you a great catch for a guy and can't believe you haven't gotten married yet.

It's like "You are a nice guy and you have reached your thirties. How come you are not married yet?!" I think they are surprised that a guy with such character, charsima or whatever they see in you isn't married yet.

They're asking because it's human nature to compare yourself to someone else, especially if you're at the same age group.

Life is made up of goals and milestones, and different people have different expectations of what they'd like to accomplish by a certain age.
