  no, I've never fallen for a friend. you're right, it does happen for some people. you have to decide whether you want to take the risk of losing her friendship by telling her how you feel. the sooner that you tell her, the sooner you'll have your answer. if she likes you, then things will work out. if she doesn't want more than friendship, then the sooner you can move on and get over her. everyone is afraid of rejection but it's part of life. good luck.
