Any tips for healthy eating and cutting portions? And what foods should I avoid?

Use smaller plates and do stuff to make the portions look bigger. For example, split a chicken breast and pound it out. It's less chicken but looks like more and tricks your mind to thinking you are eating more. Other things like containers of dry salsa look like a lot but have very few calories to them. So you would be eating what looks like a large healthy snack but not consuming much in the ways of calories.
Avoid foods that are high in carbs and/or sugar.
Stop eating junk food then. You've answered your own question.
