Does sleep deprivation have similar effects on you as being drunk?

I noticed this in myself.. After one day of no sleep, I do, of course, go through a Sleepy and Grumpy phase, but after that passes I move slower, and act silly and jokey, sort of like Happy and Dopey.

Apparently, the similar effects have been proven, but could they be proven on you?

  • I've never been drunk but science says yes; tired drivers are less safe than drunk drivers. That's why napping in lay bys is considered preferable to continuing a journey while drowsy
