  • My great grandmother always used Crisco shortening. Also seasoned the skillets with it. I rarely fry, but use vegetable oil when I do. I sauté using olive oil. My go to over all is olive oil unless it calls for vegetable oil.

  • Yes, canola oil is preferred. You can also use "vegetable oil" which is mostly soybean oil. Do not use olive oil because its smoke point is too low for deep frying and it will smoke up your kitchen.

  • Yes you can, but the best oil for deep frying is peanut oil, it has a high flash point and prevents flavour transfer. The only drawback is it's more expensive.

    • Peanut oil is heart healthy for you where canola oil is very high in saturated fats and not very healthy for you.

    • @Halligan just barley or wheat as well?

    • Just barley. But almost all flour has barley in it.

  • Ya why not...
