  • It isn't wet, it makes things wet.
By touching it you become wet, but a substance cannot make itself wet.
If I pour water into a bucket containing water, did I just make the water wet? No.
So water can wet things, but it cannot be wetted, which is the present tense of wet.
Therefore, since it cannot be wetted, it is never wet.

  • No. "Wet" refers to the state of being that involves being covered in water. Water cannot be covered in itself in the same way that a couch cannot be covered in a couch. Thus, water itself cannot be "wet".

  • Water itself is not wet because it's in it's natural state, but it can alter the state of other natural materials wet.
