As an active ex chef de cuisine, I employ both, in cooking.Fave recipes stuffing a roasting chicken with as many cloves of garlic. A fabulously wonderfully Good recipe. I also do and onion torte. Like a pie topped with extra old cheddar, not the orange one the white cheddar.

I love both
I use a little garlic in meat dishes, but never use onions. I have a little problem I like sharing with my dogs. Before you bitch about sharing your food with dogs, I've always shared with my dogs. My first dog died when she was 15, my second dog died when she was 13, third dog died when he was 14, forth dog still alive she 14, fifth dog still alive she 4 and very healthy. At least my dogs were/are happy and all were healthy. So I rather see my dogs happy, besides the dogs that did die died of old age.
Garlic.Unless it's on pizza, I hate the feel & texture of onions, though I recognize its flavor's necessity in my inherited style of cooking. So, I do cook with it, whether by nearly-liquefying it for sautéing or boiling it (shopped into 8pieces, with the tops & bottoms as intact as possible) into the soup/stew and removing them, so I can enjoy the flavor… without the actual onion.As for garlic, there are few forms of the garlic such that I won't want to eat it.
Onion.I don't really like either of them cooked, but I do like salad and often have onions as a part of it.
I like them both, but garlic is more important in my cooking.

Onions, if prepared right, could be very sweet and delicious. The only thing that is bad about onions is that raw unprepared onion irritates you.
Both have their place in cooking. As a flavoring agent, garlic. As a supporting ingredient, onion.
Both because they are both health foods. I used to eat garlic cloves with beer.
