What's Your Opinion? Sign Up Now! Do you melt the cheese on top like a French onion sort of thing? I never tried to mix the two. What sorta cheese? I gotta try. But I love thick tomato soup with very salty taste and pureed in a blender. If I feel all fancy, instead of cheese I usually put a dash of heavy cream.
I actually only started dipping bread in soup around my 30s. I don't know why I didn't do that before. I was all about being neat and orderly. Don't mix the foods. Eat as the chef/cook presented. But I tried dipping bread in soup when I was in my 30s -- my wife suggested -- and I was reluctant... but it was like, "Hrrrgaaagggh!" And I dipped the bread in the soup, and it was delicious. And it was like I was a new person after that. Then I started studying about what European peasants ate in the middle ages. They barely had meat or fish but lots of veggies and would make stews all the time -- just all sorts of ingredients thrown in. And they'd either pour the soup into a loaf of bread or dip it and eat it like bread. And I found a romance to it. Bread and soup. It is beautiful.
