Some places it is just house policy to give out free sodas and non-alcoholic beverages. it also helps make sure that there is a designated driver so it kind of doesn't backfire legally on the bar (WHY DONT YOU SERVE SODA?). the downside is that if you are smart enough to sneak your drinks in you can order the mixers straight from the bar and go ahead and mix your own cocktail in the bathroom for a fraction of the price!
Tips shouldn’t lead to food mishaps. Simply alert the staff or manager. If it’s a pattern def make the manager aware. If they are messing up yours others may also be messed up.
That's what I thought too. Also I can't ask either the staff or the manager if I'm doing anything wrong either. I also don't want my favorite bartenders to fall for me because I don't drive or have any licenses.
There are multiple reasons for it. Encouraging people to come back, because soda is relatively cheap compared to booze, to encourage the DD to not drink but still enjoy themselves...
