When you order food in a drive through, do you thank the person who took your order?

Yes, it is the polite thing to do and tends to keep things pleasant during the transaction.

Also, it's not advisable for eaters to tick-off their food-preparers. While I have some confidence that rules & regulations on sanitation, health, safety, and decency will be reasonably followed, it's probably best to not incentivize intentional violations, especially when you know violations will be aimed at you.

Yup I thank them. The only time I don't thank someone is if the person was being rude like right at the beginning.

Or they just sound annoyed like they don't want to be there.

I had some people like that before. Like I would ask for ketchup or more napkins and they would just seem like it's the end of the world. Like I'm not asking for an arm or a leg so what's with the attitude?

I don’t want to take up their time with unnecessary conversation so I will only say thank you if I know it will not detract from the time it takes for me to leave the service area - like if I’m busy with some necessary manual task when I thank them so that it isn’t adding to their drive through service time

I can hardly hear the tin can they use to communicate with you. I am lucky if they don't screw up the order. I hardly ever use the drive through anyway. Many times I am a mile down the road and find the order is wrong.
