I've done Muay thai, karate, and krav maga. I think I like Muay thai the best because of the ground combat.. not a huge fan of Krav maga
I haven't tried Krav Maga or Muay Thai yet, but I'd probably prefer Muay Thai anyways, too. I love the powerful knee strikes of that style.
as a guy... when we hear powerful knee strike, we get very nervous in Krav maga lol
Lol, I can't blame you! I bet those would be terrible to receive.
We do a lot of self defense scenarios and no one wants to get a woman in a close clinch because we've all gotten a few solid knees in the nuts... that's a hard one to come back from
Oof, I can only imagine. Groin strikes are illegal in terms of point sparring in my style and we don't practice them on our dudes. We use bags for practice on those strikes. XDThat said, there's always close calls and accidents. Though our worst incident was when one of our young kids was just fooling around not paying attention and did a spinny kick (not a real technique for us, just messing about) and hit a guy hard enough to send him to hospital... He was fine, but yeah. That wasn't a fun class.
oh jeez that's really scary. That's actually one of the reasons I dislike Krav Maga and prefer Muay Thai. Groin strikes are very common in Krav and women don't seem to mind using them
I've been hearing from a few gals on here that Krav has a huge groin strike focus.I'd feel super bad about that, especially since it sounds like instructors teach and want women to use that in class.Like, I agree with teaching it as a technique, maybe a few controlled drills, but then use bags.
Yeah there is a pretty big focus on it. We do a lot of pad work but the majority of the class is 1 v 1. I honestly prefer going against other guys because its sorta understood to not aim there. It's honestly kinda weird for me because I'm still newish to class and I'd tell the women I'd prefer them to avoid it altogether
Yeah, I don't really get why some classes seem to teach it so much. If a guy's sufficently drunk or angry, it's possible a groin strike wouldn't drop him - or that he'd at least still be able to keep hold of his target.Break the knee or arm and it's harder to ignore. At least harder to give chase. Plus it works on both - I feel like styles that ignore the idea that women can be aggressors lose out.
that's a really good point. i don't think any of the schools I've been to ever focus on a female attacker. I guess it's more rare but it happensit's kinda annoying that the women in my class don't get to get/care that groin strikes can be just as debilitating even with a cup on. Like they seem to think the cup is enough to fully a protect a guy when in reality in does help a lot, but a good strike is gonna get through a cup to a certain extent
