Do guys need any type of padding for classes like that?
They're free to wear any padding they like, but generally we're only doing simple practices and learning styles, stances, moves, etc., and adapting them to self defense. If you volunteer for full contact practice then yeah you should wear padding. Lol
I was a wrestler in high school and am joining a Krav Maga class at a higher level since I've done wrestling for so long. Do you know anything about Krav?
I know that it is very intense. I would definitely recommend at least bringing some padding with you. Though I've never personally taken a class in it. My mom has though, I could ask her.
I work with a woman (we work at a retail store), she's in her 50s but has done krav for a while, she thinks I'm really cocky since I brag about being a really good wrestler and says she could take me down in class
She probably could. Krav maga is no joke. It's guerrilla street fighting. It's not fancy or elegant, it's efficient. Krav Maga doesn't mess around.
She said something about "real men" don't wearing padding when going against old women like herself
Well she probably didn't like something you were saying and wanted to bring you down a peg. It's not a great attitude to have and something my mom wouldn't tolerate, but it happens with the more hardcore arts.
I was bragging a little about how good at wrestling I was. Do you think padding makes a big difference in Krav?
Again I can't say from experience, but the vibe I get from it tells me it's all about discipline and training your durability as much as your muscles. It's about strengthening the mind through pain and strain. I've heard of some krav classes where one of the regular exercises is getting kicked in your stomach to build up your mental fortitude.
that doesn't sound pleasant! Is the normal gear just some type of head gear?
Again, I have no idea. Lol
I just went on the site and it says cups are encouraged for men... I hope that's not what she was referring to :(
It's possible. Like I said, krav is all about ruthless efficiency. You take whatever advantage you can get.
yeah buts thats a low blow cheap shot right?
This isn't a sport. I'm sorry to say it but wrestling isn't a good primer for a real fight. There's no low blows or cheap shots in a real fight. There's only things you can do to keep yourself alive. Krav Maga is the official martial art of the Israeli special forces. It's street fighting perfected. It's ruthless, it's brutal, and it's unforgiving. If you go into it talking about cheap shots or low blows you're going to get eaten alive. Any self defense or serious martial art school will respond the same way. That's how my mom is. If someone starts complaining about something not being fair in one of her classes she reminds them that self defense isn't a game. It's not a sport. It's preparation for survival. Krav Maga takes that up another level.
So she could kick me in the balls and it would be considered okay in krav maga? she did seem pretty certain she could take me down easily
From what I've heard, yes. If she hits you in the balls it would be seen as your fault for not protecting such a vulnerable area better.
in that scenario, would u consider that taking me down? like it seems like she wants to do a friendly bet that she can take me down in krav? (i'm about double her size)
Yeah I would, considering the circumstances and the style. Krav Maga is all about being ruthless. You should be walking into a bought knowing that she's going to do whatever it takes to bring you down, and if you don't properly prepare for it, that's your fault.
is it a bad look for a guy to get taken down with a hit in the balls? like do women expect us to tough it out and keep fighting?
You gotta get over the idea of maintaining an image. LolIt's not a social club. It's training for combat. Stop focusing on how other people see you and focus on putting everything you have into your training. If you do that, if you show real dedication, then it won't matter if or how you get taken down. Everyone gets taken down. It's how you respond to getting taken down that defines you. If you complain or throw a fit, people won't take you seriously even if you only lose that match. If you get up ready to go again, wanting to know what you did wrong and prepared to work hard to fix it, it won't matter if you've lost 100 matches because you'll have their respect. You're their to learn, not to win.
Yeah but she wants to make a bet with me that she can take me down easily.. she joked at first she could do it with just a palm strike.. and I'm a lot taller than her, she probably can't reach my face
She doesn't need to reach your face. LolI've dropped guys with a solid blow to the solar plexus. The body has a shocking number of weaknesses if you know where to hit it. And even if she couldn't reach your face, she just needs to take out one knee and then her options open way up.
I think I could handle a blow to the gut, but it would be unfair if she went for the balls since thats a weakspot for guys only
Solar plexus isn't the gut. It's the spot immediately below the sternum. A solid blow there will force the air out of your lungs, you WILL stumble, and you may pass out. Lol
that just seems cruel!!!
Fighting is a dirty game. If you can't handle that don't do it. I've never had a guy get back up after I've hit his solar plexus or any other weak point and complain about it being cruel. They've just gotten up and chastised themselves for leaving that spot open. No hard feelings, go for round 2. That's just fighting, man.
I guess that's a more fair blow than the other though
There's no such thing as fair in a fight. That's another thing you've gotta get over. Lol
balls is def not tho!
If my safety is at risk, anything is fair game. Fighting is about survival, not playing nice.
Is there an expectation for guys to be tough when it comes to martial arts? Like being able to handle a solid kick? In Krav Maga, groin kicks are allowed and I’m having a hard time handling them

What is the green belt in? I was a wrestler in high school and this older woman I work with challenged me to come to her Krav Maga class and that she'll show me how much tougher Krav is than wrestling
McMap... In the Marine Corps... And that's interesting
I’m a little worried she is planning on aiming for the groin since it’s allowed in Krav Maga
That's a pointless thing to worry about... If you are truly concerned you shouldn't even be training in any fighting style... That's like saying... I love gymnastics but I am afraid to fall... If that's the case... Then don't do it... Hope this helps 💖
I wrestled in highschool and did boxing so I’m not afraid of getting hit.. it’s more so nervous about getting kicked in the balls
Sounds like you are worried about getting hit in the balls which means you agree with what I said... So what's up
Well if she went for the balls and took me down would you consider that a real take down? It seems like a cheap shot to use
Enjoy your day... If you want to chat further you will have to come to my post... Sorry about that... And good morning 🌻🧘♀️🔆
Is that pretty physical? I was a wrestler in high school and this older woman I work with challenged me to come to her Krav Maga class and that she'll show me how much tougher Krav is than wrestling
What? You get kicked in the groin?
Yeah because groin shots are allowed in Krav
