Well I would definitely rather work with inanimate objects than with people, I think that depends more on whether you're an introvert who likes spending time alone (like me) or an extrovert who likes spending time with people.
Like i said there are outliers but perhaps the big five personality traits (extroverision, openness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and agreeableness) play an even bigger role. I am no psychologist but maybe women tend to score higher in some of these traits than men and vice versa but of course that doesn't apply to every individual. I don't know all the details but I hear that Switzerland tried an experiment like I discussed earlier where men and women were somehow able to choose their own future jobs without any outside influence and that was the way it ended up. Men mainly worked with tech while women worked with people but its not completely split down the middle.
