though its by no means the only reason, a big reason the narrative being more about women picking assholes is because the largest portion of picking a partner for dating is in women's wheelhouse. add to that that the biggest gripe from women in general about the guys most often picked turns out to be some form of "but he was such an asshole". a big reason behind that is women want a certain personality (varies by individual) yet pick mostly off looks who to even talk to. guess what, personality is NOT visible in that sense. also do to women getting more of the power of choosing, guys have whats percieved as lower standards. of only more people (yes men too) could figure out how to "see" with their minds instead of their eyes. all this is why having real conversations before hand is so important as well as being bluntly honest. saddly both often are using subtle hints which more and more women can't percieve anymore where we men have been bad with them for ages already, these days women seem to either get very confused (hence a large portion of the more or less moronic questions about relationships, dating, guys/ girls behaviour, sexuality on here) or they over analyse and look for hidden meanings that dont exist.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen, younger men want the most conventionally attractive woman they can get so that they can show her off to people, inflating their ego. Of course you should find your partner attractive, but I feel there's this attitude of "I managed to pull this sexy woman! Other men will be so jealous!"

It's not really the same. guys tend to fall for girls who are 'sweet'. This isn't because guys are so much more sensible then women, it's just women are sometimes instinctively picking warrior genetics for their kids, while men are picking attentive mothers for theirs.

The closest you can get is guys falling for girls who are little mentally unstable, wild and have the sort of unstable and wild sex you might expect. TBH, those women tend to vanish anyway.
