If we were in bed (I assume he's your boyfriend or husband) and I cannot reach you even if I extend my arms, then I could think you're not into that kind of affection, and maybe he likes that kind of thing.

I had girlfriends that were really okay with us watching tv and sitting on different couches, but other girlfriends wanted to be next to me, even on me... lol.
I am flexible on that regard, it's a personal preference.
Also, you could just say "well, get closer to me". Unless you don't feel comfortable with people being that close to you.
