What is it like being with someone who has depression?

Anonymous
I was seeing a guy for around 2 months when his seasonal depression hit and he became a different person. No more calls and he barely ever texts me anymore and although we are still seeing each other he seems less interested. He did show romantic interest but when I showed some back, he sort of pulled back. For example I told him he looked cute when he was doing something and he replied with “okay I will stop doing that”. He didn’t want me to think of him as cute and I can’t help but see this as a way of him telling me he doesn’t feel that way anymore. This guy is usually a major romantic who sings to me and writes me cute paragraphs when he doesn’t give me enough attention but after the depressive episode (and getting therapy) the conversations are so dry and platonic. Is this normal for a person who is undergoing depression and is there anything else I should expect?
