Can the behavior of tissues ever change in our bodies?

I am going to undergo sex reassignment surgery in the near future. I will be having a neovagina constructed out of the skin of the penis and scrotum.
These skin grafts usually do not self lubricate because the skin of a penis does not lubricate.
However, research shows that in trans women who are post-op after a couple of years the skin starts to lubricate inside the neovagina, to the point that some trans women can get wet enough for penetrative sex without needing lube. It is also recommended to use estrogen cream and lactobasilli-containing-products in the neovaginal cavity because it would help the tissues adapt to convert to the tissues found in the vaginas of cis women.

Can body tissues really change their behavior over time? Like penile skin mucosifying when inverted?
