I quit a bit over 21 years ago. I had help. I used nicotine patches, Nicotine Anonymous, and a lot of friends' shoulders to cry my desperation on, talking all night, reassuring me that I was not losing my mind or my best friend. In short, it's one of the hardest things I've ever done. It's also one of the most valuable and self-assuring undertakings. It wasn't easy; I had a pack and a half a day habit for over 35 years, which comes out to about 48 pack-years the way the medical profession evaluates such things. That being said, to answer the question: Don't smoke your next cigarette. Don't worry about the thousands you would smoke if you do light the next cigarette/cigar/pipe or take the next 'chaw' of Skol or the like. Vaping, I hear, is similarly addicting and new effects are being found out about those too, so not using 'next time' works for all of them, in my opinion. It's hard. Breaking the addiction is horrible to go through. What got me through that pain is the first few words of Luke 2:1, "And it came to pass..." The withdrawal symptoms did not stay, and after almost 22 years I'm still grateful to those who stood by me, and to myself, for never giving up on being a quitter (of nicotine use) and a loser (of the addiction). That's just the thumbnail of my story. There are others, some similar, some dissimilar. Successful quitting is the goal, and getting there is what's important, not the details on how. Everyone is different, and that's why each quit has to be personal. Best of success.

I quit cold turkey, it's been 2 months. In the beginning I had a headache everyday and was very moody. I smoked hookah somedays but I don't inhale the smoke from the hookah. I downloaded an app that tracks your days without smoking, it keeps me motivated.
keep it up it's the first 10 years that are tough. unnibii. v
You could buy a vape such as a juul and slowly reduce the nicotine level until you’re at zero. Also apps to quit smoking are good for motivation. Or nicotine patches or gum like nicorette. Finding distractions when you crave a cig also helps
my opinion is gum and patches only change delivery, although I did9 chew a little when I first started to vape
1-2 weeks cold turkey.Avoided friends who smoke for 6 months.Used patches for 3 months after nothing for 1 week.Avoided stressful situations for 3 weeks.Changed habits and that triggered cravings.Got rid off all stuff that reminded smoking.I gave up smoking 10 years ago, smoked 20-40 a day for over 10 years.
Main think, there is no such think as 'just one cigarette or one puff'!!!Reading book about, how to quit smoking, helped a lot too.
I've been seeing addicts trying to quit one day and not smoke/do drugs/masturbate/drink but this doesn't really work. Go gradually down with your daily nicotine and always go a little longer without your cigarettes. Take it slowly. But not too much. Good luck.
Will power, mind set, determination. Its literally the first couple of days which I got cravings but plan sailing after that. I found it relatively easy, now I can't even stand the smell or the thought of smoking again.
I should have added, work out, whenever you think about giving in, pump weights, whenever you get a craving, exhaust your energy and concentrate the mind on gains, self improvement and all the positives you shall receive for finally kicking the habit.
How often do you smoke? If its severe then try smoking just 1-2 cigarettes everday in a week, then try doing it 5 days a week, then 3 days til you can fully control yourself and overcome your addiction.
Replace it with another addiction. Every time ur craving a ciggy, make urself a coffee instead.
I only smoke cigarettes now and then but I can go weeks without one.The Juul vape has worked for a couple people I know but it still isn't the healthiest approach.
I quit cold turkey when I got pregnant because mama don't play.I went through a lot of Tylenol though.
I smoked since I was 13. I may of quit using chantix. I say might because I still smoke one a day. I'm seriously wanting to stop completely. I have reached the point that I can go hours without one
I quite smoking cold turkey and the passing of my mom from lung cancer. I haven't smoked a cigarette since Dec. 31 2016. Three year's smoke free.
I put a pack of toothpicks in my shirt. I transfer my cig habit to a toothpick habit. Which one easier to quit. I was a 3.5 a day smoker
The QuitNow app helped me. I’m a month into quitting, and don’t really need the app, or the chat room now, but it was a big help at first.
I stopped cold Turkey believe its it's a mental thing overall. Causes you to eat a lot sometimes lack of sleep after 3 days you won't like the tart taste of it
just download the quit tracker app and there u go, im almost 3 months without smoking :D
Quitting really isn't that hard staying quit is the problem for me
Cold turkey. Decide your quit date and don't smoke or buy anymore after that date. The first week is absolutely horrible but it gets easier. Smoke free 9 years now.
