Why do people think it’s easy to gain weight?

I’ve always been skinny my whole life and I’ve been training in the gym for five years. I’m at 140 pounds of mainly muscle now at 5’8, but I would always get shitty advice from fat people talking about “just eat more”, but when people talk about losing weight, it’s now this complicated formula to lose weight. Why is losing weight so complicated, but gaining weight isn’t?
