I want to start running, any tips for a beginner?

Hi there, I've been a pro walker for a while but I've always wanted to start running. I'm 163, not the skinniest girl and my main problem is that I can't run for more than 6 seconds without being short of breath. It's exhausting and I don't know how to get my body used to it. Also, is it useful to tone up my thighs and legs without building muscles? I just want a leaner silhouette and legs
