How do people get to 300+ Lbs?

My MIL is pushing 300 pounds. As long as zip have known her she has been obese. I have done everything in my power to help her and I have even paid for weight lose programs where her and I could buddy up together to support each other but it was one excuse behind another. She is now 70, she is a diabetic, she has high blood pressure and cholesterol. She needs expensive insulin as well as two additional types of diabetes medication. She is also on the highest tier costing brand name drugs to which no generics are even made. Unfortunately, her medications are what is keeping her alive. My husband and I have washed our hands of her.

Well, since you can go beyond that, demonstrably, you don't NEED to. Yes, you probably should, but the thing is that crying wolf makes people not believe you- that was the whole point of that story.

Being overweight is a health issue most can take definitive action on themselves, without expensive medicines or surgeries, which a big part of why it's suggested so often. But when you grossly exaggerate the dangers, to the point of not distinguishing between a cause and a risk factor (you know, breaking down the whole distinction of cause and effect), people stop taking you seriously, even when you're telling the truth. Then they get surprised when no pays attention to them about COVID; there's a lesson there.

As to how, it's easy: take it more calories than you spend, and do so at a high enough rate for a long enough time. It's not rocket science.

Yes, and when you realize you try to go on a diet and lose weight. Exercise and count calories. But because it’s habitual other challenges in life come up and you slide back to comfort foods and the bad habits. 10 pounds a year over 10 years means going from 200 pounds to 300 pounds; even if there are a few diets and fluctuations in between.

I’m assuming they are depressed and stop caring - Like I knew a guy who was so depressed when his mom got cancer he wouldn’t even take the 10 minutes that it takes to drop his classes before skipping them and ended up with a failing GPA for that semester that dashed his career Dreams for several years

Because they fucking eat, and sometimes eating the wrong food can become an addiction. Especially when eating becomes a form of relieving stress.

But yeah in short, it's because they eat, but for the reasons they let themselves eat so much that they get to that point varies a little.

It depends, at 250 pounds I have no fat to lose, I'm less than 2% body fat. So I don't need to lose weight. People like you, are why the fat acceptance movement exists. Perhaps do more research into body composition and muscle to fat ratios before you spout stupid shit like that.

I'm at 300 but I feel perfectly normal I mean yea being skinnier would be nice but food is life I love exercising so don't think I'm just a fatso I was 210 pounds a 5 years ago and feel just about the same
