What to do when you feel worthless?

Via religion, I first drown-out the emotional state something more constructive. For example, I'd play a song or 2 that re-directs my attention to Lord & Creator יהוה ("YHVH"), the true center, focus, and meaning of life & all existence; that reminds me of our value as His created human-beings, or that cheers me up in general. Then (when I'm in a better state-of-mind), I address the basis of the feeling (if any legitimate bases apply in the specific case). For example, if it's due to new social-chaos from something I did/said (or 'failed to do' or 'failed to do at the right time and/or manner'), then I try to fix it if possible. If it's due to a competence-issue, diagnose the undesirable outcome and try to fix it. If I can't, then I look for another competitive-advantage, so that I still have an edge regardless of the outcome.

Also, there's helping the less fortunate. No matter how bad your situation is, there is someone in this Earth who has it even worse. That reminder & the knowledge that you can help them (because you actually did!) proves that I can still make an impact in this world, even if just a little 1 at the moment. (For example, giving a heartfelt greeting while handing a homeless beggar a $5-bill hidden under a $1, then making a quick getaway. Not only can that give a pleasant surprise, but even make possible a reasonable meal. That's potentially 2impacts for the price of 1. Then, if your finances allow, try replacing the $5 with a larger bill.) Spontaneous acts of kindness also heals the soul to some extent.

There's also realizing that, in nature, everything has role. Even an defeated animal that's eaten is someone else's food, even horrific corpses & disgusting shιt are both fertilizer, and the penicillin that saved countless lives over the decades… was derived from the fungi of a moldy piece of bread. So, find whatever role you as yourself can make the biggest impact while serving, be the best you can be in that role, and always strive to find new & better ways of serving.

I look out at the massive farm that took 5 generations off my family to build the cows grazing out in the field that feed my community , the grains in the bins that will feed my community and the world, the land I will one day give my portion to my kids, then the farm hands and I think of all the people I have employed and all the people who I have rented a home to, then I look at the beeper on my belt and remember all the good and bad about being a volunteer fire fighter/ paramedic and all the brothers and sisters i gained over the years and the few I lost, I think off all the orphans I took horses back riding so they would at least have a few good memories and lastly i look at myself all the scars from a abusive childhood all the time my dad took teaching my to how survive in any situation no matter how bad it got and I remember how I survived and thrived through the hard time raising my brother and sister after they died and lastly I remember my great grandpa survived ww1 my grandpa survived ww2 and my dad survived 4 years in the regular military and 8 years as a special forces sniper

Create an alternate universe inside your head. Or engage in therapeutic hobbies. Listen to music. You can also do nothing or go to bed and pray tomorrow gets better

I volunteer at a homeless shelter and realize how good I have it in life.

Do something nice for someone. Especially if you can do so secretly. Making someone's day better is always good for a mood booster, and directly shows that you're not worthless.
