yuk, I am amazed at all the maladies people have suffered with. I am almost sorry I asked this question.
But you know, the thing is that at 27, you never think you're going to hear, "If you ever get pneumonia again, it could kill you." That was the Cracker Jack surprize package. So was disabused AGAIN of the invulnerability of youth brain freeze. Bounced on pavement after losing control of bike playing "car," stricken with pneumonia at 27... Felt very mortal after those two incidents.
Getting a new hip means that my body will not always bounce back from all the abuse.
Just don't RUN extreme miles. Kayaking sounds like it's doable. I saw a PBS special called Surfing for Life, where some 80 somethings were surfing in Hawaii because they loved it and it was of value to them. Maybe you won't be able to RUN, but you'll be able to SHUFFLE / JOG... Long as you can move and not be in pain... seems like you'll be OK...
