Maybe not for you it doesn't, but when you have very young children within the family it's so nice to keep the spirit of Christmas and to see they're little faces light up with joy and surprise.
@EmmaMary I agree that if you have children and a family, the Christmas spirit is different because children see it with their eyes and associate the magic of Christmas with a number of memories and events that we seem to have forgotten.
Christmas is derived from a mixture of Pagan and Christian celebrations. It comes from a winter solstice festival called Yule or Saturnalia I believe, which celebrated the rebirth of the sun after the darkest day. Christmas trees and lights were to ward off evil winter spirits (just like the Halloween jack o lantern). They chose this time of year as Jesus’ birthday due to this, as far as I know. But you’re right we don’ think about this stuff at all, we just have fun. Same for other religious celebrations like Halloween and Easter.
Thanks for the feed-back :-)

Also it isn't up yet. In Germany the tree is traditionally put up and decorated on the 24th
Christmas in Germany is really pretty, I’ve been to the Cologne Christmas Market before. Frohe Weihnachten! 🎄
That's beautiful. Our winter is rain and grey skies.

@haileyflame73x33 Thank you. That's not quite what I meant by the question, but I'm guessing you knew that.
