Why do some people get angry when I say that I dont need marriage?

As we grow up people tend to pretty much beat things into our heads. Getting married and having kids being a great example of this. So it becomes a perceived norm and something we must do. When the norm is challenged you are always risking push back. Because people do make these norms a central idea on their life and/or goal in their life. I'm a loaner and have been pretty much since grade school. So that kind of push back something I'm use to. The best advice I can give is to work on learning to filter it out and never give in to it. It's your life to live and no one else's.

You are challenging their world-view, and many people today aren't used to being challenged, and they lose their minds when it happens. These same people usually believe that they are open-minded, inclusive, and tolerant, but you can see that they are anything but that.

Because you get nothing if your husband dies if you don't have that piece of paper. either his family members or the government would get it, not you. It used to be true too that you couldn't get health insurance from your mate if you weren't married. I don't know if that is still true but it is one reason gays wanted the right to be married.

They're trying to impose their values on you.
Is it family? They want offspring, keep the genes going.
Is it friends? Are they married... and happy?

People love to judge.
Cut them off at the pass. Walk away. Or spray their face with a bottle of water. That teaches pets well.

I know what you mean. I know many people would react like that. Try to ignore them, they're prejudiced. Also, they believe everyone must get married which is not true. Live your life like you want, not how they want.

They probably just feel like you're stepping on their value of marriage. Or other traditional values.

They're just barking cause they have a one-sided view and can't entertain another person's views with tolerance or respect.

Maybe tell them to mind their own damn business. They're being too nosy and invade spaces, that aren't their own.

Respect! I don't want to marry either. I am 100% cool with living like a husband/wife without the marriage certification and without kids.

People (most) do not like to be challenged and have strong beliefs which they would not care to compromise, unfortunately.

Good for you. Marriage is a raw deal for men today. So a woman who doesn't want to get married sounds like a better human being than most women.
