Even in the past why has weddings always been about mainly the woman?

Even in the past, many focused on the bride's special day, her beautiful wedding dress, her being walked down the aisle, her parents giving you their blessing, etc. Not much about the groom's day and his preparation for the event, for his parents' blessings, etc.

My aunt and uncle both were virgins in the wedding and it got treated as if it was her b-day among the family, as HER celebration. It was his day too, not just hers. So even in the past (before the prenup thing), why was it always the bride's day and her family? What about the guy and his family?
