I started building my credit as soon as I turned 18. It was some sort of student card with a $500 limit and a ridiculous interest rate. I made small purchases monthly and paid the entire bill every month. After about 6 months I got another credit card with a something like a $2K limit and a slightly lower interest rate. I kept at the same pattern jumping to $5K, then $10K, and within about two years I pushed my credit limit to $15K on a single card with an OK interest rate and had achieved a credit score around 800. I’ve never really carried a balance on a credit card. I just used it to build credit to qualify for loans, for 30 days of float, and at certain periods exploited 0% interest cards for credit arbitrage when the US mint was selling Native American gold dollars with no shipping charge at face value…
Got my first one at 18 to start building credit. My credit score hovers around 800 these days. Meanwhile some of my similar-aged friends have never had a credit card and have almost no credit. Some of my friends use their debit card for everything. To be honest I want to yell at them every time they say "debit card." It's so stupid to use those things.
I got it two months ago, so I was 21 years old, it’s a Visa, and I got it because I bought my first cellphone and didn’t want my mom to pay for it with her card and have to transfer the money to her every month.Though I have to admit that it is very practical to have a PayPal account.
18. Capital One. Bad decision. Now I'm 27 with 3 credit cards (Credit One and Indigo). It was going so well up until about 6 months ago. Now I'm back to square one.
Shortly after turning eighteen when I started receiving my annuity payments and opened my checking account, BOA automatically signed me up for a Visa credit line I have, but have never used.

I was 32 when I got me a 'Diners' and a 'Mastercard' I was 34 when I scrapped both. And lived happily ever after.
I forgot the kind of card, but it was a $300 limit I used to buy a $29.00 winter coat, (kinda pricey at the time).

Wow you go a credit card at 13 your parents must have had to co sign or something?
Yeah they just accompanied me, I’m 16. Instead of pocket money in hand, so I blew it on stupid stuff she would put it in there. So I could save up and learn how to use a credit card to save up for things I may want more, like things you buy online. Instead of wasting it on sweets.I’m 16, so it’s my credit card now (it’s a visa) and I can save money better than her lol!
