Have you ever been to a "Bargain Bin" style store?

Question

They are rather popular in the Southern US especially Tennessee and North and South Carolina. They pretty much are stores where liquidations from different stores and Amazon returns are put into bins and people dig through hoping to find good deals on big ticket items for little next to nothing. In my experience they can be fun but a lot of it is junk and they can have products that are rather old that thrift stores such as goodwill would sell.

It's actually a rather New concept that has popped up in this area over the last year especially during covid.

I went one time with a friend who goes to them regularly. The one I went to wasn't quite like you described though ( but the picture looks much like it ). The one I went to was a Goodwill store. It was excess stock from local thrift stores, and probably from more than just Goodwill stores. It's possible there was some new products from places like Amazon, but if so it was a small minority. The large majority was used junk.

My friend loves it. I didn't think it was worth digging through all that stuff. If I lived right next to the place it might be worth taking a quick look at the stuff on top.

I'd rather just go to garage sales, or a regular thrift store.

A difference I noticed between the one I went to and the one in the picture, is that the picture has fixed bins. The one I went to the bins were on wheels. Each bin was about 6-8 feet long. They were filled at the back of the store. The new bin would be pushed in from the back, and all other bins moved forward toward the front of the store. This happened once an hour. So the entire stock would be rotated about once every day or two.

Around here the stores are usually close to consecutive days a week in order to restock usually on Thursday and Fridays. And they have certain days like everything is $5 day, the next day things might be everything is $3, and the next day might be fill everything in the bag for $10. However a lot of what I found is closeouts and liquidation. the last time I went to one of the stores I found a lot of Washington Redskins merchandise

The one here is similar. I forget how all the prices work. They had a sheet of paper with all the prices. I think some sold by the pound, or by the bag.

That picture is better quality stuff than the one I went to.

That looks like it might be a tackle box at the very front. That's something I'd take a look at, even though I don't need one.

I'm not familiar with that exact format, but I've been in every variation of flea market or bargain scenario that the concept seems to refer to, and if I ever see one, I'll be sure to check it out.
