Is this quite common?

Ok so I have got into watching Chicago Fire on the TV now and I am curious is it common for fire crew and ambulance teams to share stations and space?

In the U. S. That is I am not from the U. S.

  • Some places run EMS from hospitals. The vast majority are shared stations.

    • Interesting how things are done in the states all of ours in the UK have separate stations but I suspect we may go the same way as your system sooner or later as the health service is a mess

  • It is, because so many fire calls will involve dealing with medical issues (skin burns, smoke inhalation, electric shock, etc.). An American city or county with a limited or more modest public service budget will also combine these "emergency service" functions.
