Bakers, some advice please?

So, basically instead of giving Christmas cards this year, I'm baking gingerbread 'stars' for my friends and what I'd really like to do is pipe their initials onto them.
Now, my knowledge of icing is limited, and I only know the 'icing sugar plus water and mix' method. So what would be really helpful is if someone can tell me what kind of icing will be good/easy to pipe but still go 'solid' as it were, so it doesn't get messed up when I wrap it... In cellophane... Also, I'd prefer it not to have too much flavour, as obviously the gingerbread will have plenty of that on it's own!
Any ideas?
