Do I need to make a big deal with this or no?

I got the keys to an apartment (moved in on the 1st). My long term (3 year) boyfriend has been at school. He's finishing up in May.

I was wondering a few things...

Is it expected that I give him a set of keys to the apartment?
If I choose to give him a key do I have to make a big deal of it?
Do I need to take him to dinner and stuff or can I just give him the key?
Do I need to make a speech about stuff?
Is it like a less official form of proposing? People are making it seem like it's super serious.
Should I give him the key in the first place?
Is there anything to read into it?

Am I being over obsessive? (Hint: the answer to that one is yes lol)

  • Kinda, if you want - it could be nice, either way, not that serious, some people might - others wouldn't, as you said - yes.

  • I think if you've been together for 3 years. it seems natural to give him a key. It's not like you're asking him to move in, it's just like "Here is a copy of my keys in case something happens to me or if you just want to come over."

Just giving someone a key isn't the same as asking them to move in. If the intention is to ask him to move in... that's an entirely different discussion.
