  • No, the quote makes sense and that's because of option paralysis.
The more powerful you are, the more options you have. If you have too many options, your brain gets upset having to evaluate them all.

Devo said it best in their song "Freedom of Choice"
    "Freedom of Choice
    Is what you've got
    Freedom from Choice
    Is what you want."

    From the TED Radio Hour:
Are We Happier When We Have More Options?

ALSO, the adage of "Absolute power corrupts absolutely". The more power we have, the less ethical we are likely to behave. Put another way, we are afraid of becoming what we don't like.

  • Read the whole quote... it will make more sense.

It means we're more afraid of succeeding and leaving everything we know behind than actually failing.

    • Yeah why is succeeding more scary than leaving everything we know behind?

Also what is "everything" referring to here and why is it hard to leave it behind?

    • People don't like change that much... and some people are afraid of the negative/jealous comments people will start saying when they succeed.

The quote is a way of saying that by succeeding we allow others near us to succeed as well.

    • To add to what the OW said, I believe that we fear the unknown, and future knowledge is as unknown as it can get.
