What would happen if you threw a blue jay out of the back of a passenger plane at a cruising altitude of 36,000 feet?

Would it survive?

What Girls Said 1

  • He would come down to earth eventually.

What Guys Said 1

  • It would probably die from a lack of oxygen.

    • Not so sure about, birds have incredibly efficient lungs and there are birds that can actually fly at that altitude, let alone sustain their life. Granted they're not blue jays but it isn't unreasonable to think that other birds could survive at that altitude (or at least live long enough to fall to an altitude that could sustain them indefinitely)

    • I didn't say that it flew at those altitudes, I'm just saying that with their highly efficient respiratory system, they would be able to survive until they fell to an altitude at which they could fly.
