Do you think that participating on a competition is like playing the lottery?

I am starting to think so. There are many variables that can make someone win or loose a competition, if those variables were different probably things would turn out to be the other way.
For example: competitor A won a race, competitor A passed months training, and he always had his family support, what if competitor A loosed that family support before the race and competitor A feel down? Would competitor A still win that race? Or one of the others competitors would have won?

  • Sometimes. I've definitely been surprised when certain people didn't win something that everybody thought they'd win. Sometimes it's purely down to skill, sometimes other things come into it like having a bad day like you say.
