not just black people have been slaves, so, it's not about race
What was slavery really about?
What Girls Said 9
It was about power, money, political interests. Because slave owners thought they were superior to their slaves.
That's true, black people weren't the only ones who were slaves. But no people have suffered more and for longer than black people.
The effects of slavery are still visible in many African countries and on they way many Africans (the ones from the South) think and see themselves.0
There have always been slaves, there is an extreme amount of slaves now. Even though people like to blame American people, slavery was in full force for a long time before America was even a concept.
The cast system in India is basically slavery for many as well.0
In America, it was about the usual but it was truly about your skin colour (hence why your children would be slaves if you were a slave). In the rest of the world it was really strictly about power and control and the ever ending fight to take over the world as rhe most powerful country.0
People like having control and power. The more people they control, the more powerful they feel.
Also, it was pretty obvious that this was only asked because you just wanted to state that not only blacks were slaves. Everyone already knows that.0
Are you happy that you got your point across that not just blacks were slaves? Because I feel that you only asked this question for the sole agenda of pointing that out0
Slavery is about proving your power over someone else that you view as weaker, not as important as you. It's about ownership. It's about getting return while not having to get your hands too dirty (like out in the fields, building pyramids). It's a way to exploit people, degrade people all while finding more ways to further yourself. It's a way to make your life easier, but it usually comes at the cost of making someone else's life much harder0
It depends which region of slavery you’re referring to. For the Egyptians, it was about creating a lavish, materialistic world. For Americans, it was primarily about race. That’s why crazy, evil white people STILL continued to try to keep blacks down and legally describe them as less than human years after slavery.1

This is a rather vague question because different societies practiced different forms of slavery for different reasons in different parts of history, but generally slavery was about economics, labor, population displacement, and war. Remember that industrialism was fairly recent, do the ancient world had limited options when it came to dealing with certain sociopolitical and economic issues.0
Slavery started because powerful people didn't want to work too much, so they got the weaklings to do the hard work.
It was never about race, it was more about not doing tough work and to establish dominance.0
Free labor. People come up with crazy stupid reasons like it was because white people wanted to hold down black or even that white dudes envied black guys lol I shit you not. But it's basically free labor for the owners weather they were white, Arabic, black, Romans, Greeks or even the Chinese.0
Cheap. labor, a slave is a one time investment, and a renewable resource. Humans first animal that they domesticated was other humans.0
Its about increasing your standard of living. Whether this through increasing your wealth or through other means.0
The Nazi's used slave labor, so did pre-Columbian native Americans.0
It was about forcing people to work for you for free because you had the power.0
I think it was about resources and maximum production. As soon as technology improved, the slave industry pretty much died off because there was a better and faster way to get the job done.0
Money... Resources... Being able to live comfortably while someone else suffers for you.0
