GAG Language Challenge: Can you say something in a different language?

I really want to hear how well people can speak in a language that's not their native tongue. I chose Spanish because I took it college recently. Speaking French is a bit a hard for me, I could try that later if we get more answers. Good luck, :3

  • The language I grew up with is Norwegian and I learned English in school.
With Icelandic I could probably manage a sentence with a heap of grammatical errors and horrible pronunciation but still understandable to a native...
I technically had German in school...
But honestly I wouldn't be able to speak it.
    But understanding German and Dutch...
I could probably get more then 50% right there...
So better then random picks, but not by much...
Swedish and Danish is fairly easy to understand for anyone who grew up with Norwegian.
But blasted if I can speak either though.
I could probably try to fake one word here and there.
But I'd have to live there for years to actually speak it.

Bonjour madame, comment allez-vous? (In French, hi Miss, how are you doing?).
Hallo @Muffinhead, eten we samen een ijsje? (In Dutch, my mother tongue: Hi Muffinhead, shall we eat an icecream together?).
Einen wundershönen tag frau Muffinhead, wie ist das leben in Uzbekistan?
(In German: A very nice day Miss Muffinhead, how is life in Uzbekistan?).
    That's my contribution :D :D

    • 大学に勉強せず日本語を勉強しましたっけ。😳 すごいですよ。

    • そう言ってくれてありがとうございます。^^ 勉強し始めた頃に日本語の授業に一ヶ月間ぐらい通ったんですが、勉強の方法は僕と似合わなくて、やめました。やめてから独学し始めました。日本人の友達に文法や単語を教えて貰いましたので感謝しています。

      SilverRainさんはどうやって勉強したんですか?

  • Here's something in Filipino:
Hey GAG! Kumusta kayong lahat? Sana ok kayo, saka sana tuloy lang ng tuloy sa pagtanong. Subukan kong sagutin lahat ng tanong na interesado ako.

    --Translation--
He GAG! How's everybody? I hope you're all ok, and keep the questions coming. I'll try to answer questions I find interesting.
    --End translation--

God, It's been a while since I typed in my native language. Took me a minute to compose and find the right words.

    • Yeah, I don't actually speak it but I hear it kinda often because I'm from Switzerland where it is one of the official languages. And I understand some stuff because I know Classical Latin, which is basically the mommy of Italian ;-).

  • I can speak a little Japanese and a little German.

Konnichiwa, watashi wa Mel. Choushi wa dou?
that's japanese for "Hello, my name is Mel. How are you?

    the German equivalent would be
"Hallo, Ich heisse Mel. Wie bist du?

    1|1
    0|0
    • *Wie geht es dir? ;-)
      (not "wie bist du")

    • Is that right? What did I say?

    • "Wie bist du" doesn't really make sense in this context because it's a literal translation. If you asked a German "Wie best du?", he would assume you're asking him what kind of person he is. So it would be like 'what are you like' in the sense of 'what kind of person are you? Are you loud or quiet, patient or impatient, funny or serious etc.'
