  • This word is short for the word mathematics, which is a plural, so the word "maths" is right, because it's also plural

    • In Britain maths is correct and we were the ones who spoke the language first sooooooooo we're right :P I'm so defensive of this, I don't know why, I just hate that America can't just either get its own language or say ours correctly!! I mean not that I blame you guys personally...

  • Math and maths are equally acceptable abbreviations of mathematics. The only difference is that math is preferred in the U. S. and Canada, and maths is preferred in the U. K., Australia, and most other English-speaking areas of the world.

  • Math, because it's in a singular form in Finnish as well.

    • I see your point but different languages have different rules/grammar

    • I was reffering to the fact that both math and maths are grammatically correct abbreviations, and I prefer math over maths because of my native language.

    • Since I'm in the UK maths is correct, and I just feel like since the language originates here we should be the ones who define the rules of it. I understand your point, it's more that I just object to the fact that "math" is accepted

  • I prefer 'endless suffering' but I think math works as well

  • I suppose if you were talking about all of them, the s on the end would be correct.

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc are all maths.

    • @HereToProveMyPoint that's also true because saying that you're in a mathematic class vs in a mathematics class is the same thing as saying math vs maths except they're just opposite. i guess it also depends how and where you grew up, how you've heard the word being said, etc just like most English words with learning because different places have different ways of pronouncing words

    • also, here in Canada, there's many ways of saying words that in other countries, and even continents, it probably sounds really strange to them because they're not used to it

  • Mathematics.
