Why do different University majors attract people (especially women) of different attractivenes?

From what I have seen,
Most attractive girls can be found at humanities and liberal arts department. Followed by business and finance.

When it comes to STEM there are some sub categories.

Biological sciences, Medicine etc have attractive girls.

Whereas number of attractive girls in Physical sciences is pretty low.

Whereas Math in itself has fewer girls and there's no particular trend of attractiveness among them. They're a decent mix of average n attractive.
Have you noticed that?

  • I'm inclined to say that music majors and fashion design majors tend to attract very attractive women... admittedly I am very biased about the music majors.

As for the rest, I haven't noticed. When I think about it, among my male friends, the very attractive ones tended to go into business and finance.

Now you've got me curious, SchrodingersAmericanlion (yes, they lived in my home Los Angeles, tens of thousands of years ago), what majors have you noticed attracted good looking men? What about the STEM majors? Are there some which attract more good looking men than others?

    • I'm honestly biased towards STEM major men 🙈. However most girls disagree with my taste in guys. My type is skinny, nerdy and with medium length thick hair, clean shaven. Whereas most girls have exact opposite taste- muscular, outspoken, buzz cut or crew cuts, beard/stubble etc.

If we go by majority girls' taste then most attractive guys can be found in business, liberal arts, humanities.

By my taste, they're found in Physics, Engineering and Math. Sometimes in biological sciences. Sometimes.

  • Many of the young ladies going to college these days see how women only ten to fifteen years ago were able to succeed with a degree and they are seeing time in slow motion. Most people understand that men can perceive space and time differently then women. We can more accurately extrapolate future trends based on the current environment around us because of our ancient hunting skills. We had to predict the probability of the mastodon or mammoth and which direction it was going to run into so we could accurately hit it with a spear. The problem with women in education is they generally want to get a job right after school. They don't generally want to start their own businesses. They don't want to have to become an entrepreneur because it's hard work. Instead they start their own businesses once they realize their education is worthless and when they won't be able to get a job In the so-called real world. I've seen this many times and it's really sad to see and all because woman's imagination is limited to what other successful women did before them. Originality and calculated risks don't seem to register in most of their minds and another sad thing is they can't actually teach you creativity in college. Men I find have it in droves because we have to have it to survive in this world. In the past, women would just generally find a man. entire government offices and industries are created to offer make work to women that basically took too much debt out on their education.

  • Yeah I've noticed. Here the law school and business & finance school has the highest rate of attractive people (both sexes). I don't know, maybe attractive people more often focus on status. They're used to being admired for their beauty and might get somewhat shallow from that and often don't develop real interest in anything specific other than maybe makeup, fashion, hair, social media... Things like that. So when it's time to pick what to study they don't know what to chose because they have no real interests and so they turn to "fancy" university programmes for the social status they give. Less attractive people can't depend on their beauty and may feel less motivated by fashion and makeup all together because they'll still not be as good looking as some other people even if they tried, and therefore develop other interests in life, and then they're picking what to study based on those interests. Obviously this is not true for everyone - NOT ALL, not all! But I think it's definitely true for some, I've noticed these tendencies in people.

What Guys Said 20

  • Hottest girls (and guys) by far have been in sports science. Followed by Economics and Communications.

As for why... I don't know, i guess because there are more girls so you're probably going to see more hotties. One noticeable trend has been that the *better* the university (i. e the better the upbringing and general social class) the more attractive people are. I can see that making sense because pretty girls go for successful men and make good families and the cycle continues.

  • Isn't it logical that most girls tend to take up social sciences and humanities subjects as their majors so most of the hot girls are more likely to be found in these majors. My university is a liberal arts school focused on socialism studies and humanities and literally there are more girls than guys on campus.

  • I noticed roughly similar things at university, too.

I figured out a - partial - reason for it, at least where I was. One of the colleges had an admissions tutor, who clearly had an eye for the ladies, because the general standard of female attractiveness at that college was streets ahead of any of the others...

Things like that also factor in...

  • I see your point, but there are some very pretty chemists and physicists out there. I know a really beautiful analytical chemist. I think beautiful people can have different experiences relating to other people. They can be more persuasive and confident. People naturally seek them out. This makes them suitable for communications, politics, business, and other careers that require the ability to influence others.

  • The girls I know tend to choose Humanities cause it's easier - memorise stuff.
Girls who choose science based streams are rather more busy with studies that they don't get time for beauty and fashion.
    Maths... well...

    • Stereotypes. You should study humanities and linguistics, see if that's easy. Everything requires a certain type of intelligence to master and a certain personality that fits and loves what is taught.

    • Show All
    • @Lynzerilee I find humanities to be tougher. Don't have the capacity to memorise history.
I was referring to the girls of my school. They're good for nothing

  • In the Engineering side, you get nerdy females, one of which is my love of my life xD

  • There are always a lot of exceptions of course, but in general terms, I would agree that the physical sciences tend to attract the less attractive girls, for some reason.

  • I had a drop dead gorgeous girl in my engineering classes but engineering to her was a stepping stone to law school. Because we know there aren't enough lawyers in the world.

  • The number of girls in humanities is much higher. So you will be more likely to find attractive girls in those majors. But it depends on what you find attractive

  • Having taken all those courses, I have to say that this is actually kind of true.
I think that hot girls are stupider, that's why they major in courses they find easier.

But then again, biology and medicine are not easy subjects.
I know some of those fields there is an image that the girls are supposed to be "hot", though that's not the case for biology.
I was gonna say that uglier girls don't date so they have more time to study difficult subjects, but there are hot girls in medicine.
And actually a lot of the ugly girls in my physical science courses, "If you consider geography a physical science", were actually pretty stupid.

So I really don't know. That would be an interesting study.

by the way, you're a physics girl, but I don't think you're dumb or ugly

  • Nowadays it's more about popularity of the course. Many people think they will get rich if they study data science for example, so you start seeing more cute girls in Statistics, CS, applied math etc.

I have found many attractive girls to be in the bio/chemistry department. Especially this building where they do research about Food science.
Sometimes I see a cute girl in math department then it turns out she's a postdoc and will teach me next sem.
I never set foot into the buildings of business/art/humanities major. Maybe I should go there and check them out.

    • ROFL 😂😂🤣

    • All girls take care of their appearance on their own way because they want to look good. If a girl studies finance then she surely worked and works her ass off to get there and major in that field.

  • Does that prove good looks are indirectly proportional to a scientific subject?

  • Actually this might just be an observation bias. Like because the no. The girls who take humanities & the subjects u suggest have more attractive girls. It's much more likely to find these types of girls in those feild simply because the no. of girls in the feild in general is higher.

And because the no. of girls in the physical sciences is in general less. The distribution of ideal specimen over more variety of University results in us seeing them less often.

Like think of it imagine the whole classroom of the girls in the humanities/biology class. Now assume that whole class was to be distributed over into many different classes (of different universities as well) 1-3 girls in each class I guess. And thus u would simply notice most classes. Don't have the ideal specimen :)

    • Assuming the classroom to be of 30 girls with 10 ideal specimens fair enough?

  • Hmm. I mean I knew some really attractive math girls.

Honestly though, there are some pretty unattractive girls in all those too.

I think there's just a huge pool of girls in liberal arts departments, so out of the hundreds some are gorgeous, some you ignore. In physical science there are literally like a handful so you notice them and the odds are they're average.

It's perhaps true that the prettiest girls are a little less likely to pursue tough degrees because … they don't have to.

It may also be true that girls in say physical sciences tend to end up hanging around with all guys and hence aren't swapping makeup tips etc. A lot of appearance related stuff isn't just to attract the opposite sex, it's about in-group status. Guys working out to make some muscle pop more …. only other guys notice that.

  • This reminds of that annoying time of post highschool stereotypes inside college. "You're quiet and a loner, were you perhaps a Maths student?" SMH. It doesn't makes sense, one girl could have or has been on the verge to change her choice of major numerous times and could've ended up anywhere. Girls who are laid back and not too detail obssessed over how they look, you can find them in science, business, humanities.. etc. The opposite isn't false either.
