What Non-Physical Pain Is Most Likely To Make You Cry?

This wasn't anything that happened to me recently (it popped into my mind while I was petting my cat) but what will usually get to me quite heavily, is failing an innocent, loving creature when I feel like I could have done more.

I've had to have pets "put down" by vets because I could not afford to get them treated anymore after spending a lot of money on them.

Normally I am kind of a detached, cold-hearted bastard in my own ways but letting down an innocent creature, human, feline, canine, whatever.. it made me cry at the time when the death occured but thinking back on it has my chest feeling a little tight. My eyes are dry but it.. still feels weird. I very rarely feel sad, life is too short.

Guilt is a strange thing.
