If it's something simple though like asking a stranger for directions -- something which imposes trivial costs on others -- no problem. If it imposes nontrivial costs I'm much more reluctant about it and would try every means possible to solve the problem on my own.
As an extreme example, I was hit by a car once when I was a boy. It really messed up my legs for a while and I couldn't walk. But I kept stubbornly resisting the people who got out of the car trying to help me walk and get in the car to go to the hospital. I want to do it! :-D Then it's like I'm trying to walk and fall down... *Sigh* Okay, you guys can help me to the car.
Actually I didn't even want to get in the car or go to the hospital. It's like I'll just kind of pull my upper body home. It's only like a mile from here. :-D I'm a bit stubborn like that -- been that way since childhood.
