Can auto insurances find out if you've lied on a statement?

Anonymous
Last year I hit someone's park vehicle on the taillight. Ok so I broke it a bit but nothing else.

Since there were no witness, I reported the accident the following day and gave them an incorrect time (I said it happened at around 7:30 am instead of 3 am). I just said that I was talking on my cell and didn't realize the car was there. I assumed responsibility for the incident but that was a lie. I just didn't want to get in trouble with the law.

The truth is I came out of a party and was tipsy/hammered. Nevertheless, I still felt I could coordinate good and drove; mistake on my part. It's been a while since but can auto insurances still find out I've lied.
